Easiway, ride-booking app in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, is one of the official sponsors of STARTUP GRIND’s FIRESIDE CHAT WITH THE LEGENDARY GARY VAYNERCHUK, held on July 12. (Thank you, Jan Smejkal! We can’t wait to see you talk with this guy on stage.)

This is exciting for us because Gary Vaynerchuk, CEO and co-founder of VaynerMedia, represents what everyone at Easiway believes in which is loving people.

In the world where social media takes over, we tend to take relationships lightly and become more isolated. Thanks to the online dating apps, it is easier for us to meet new people with every swipe and more people get ghosted. It’s halloween every day. (YouGov/Huffington Post’s 2015 survey shows over 10% Americans have ghosted someone. Just awful!)

We should use social media to engage with others regardless of any boundaries. Gary here does not take the social media for granted and he is a guy who hasn’t forgotten what’s important.

Digital era or not, one thing is constant: we all matter.

But do we treat each other like we do?

Gary is proof that caring for others and using social media to show that can lead us to bigger success. He calls empathy “one of the biggest things to which he attribute his success.”

You can move people if they believe that you genuinely care about them. In the beginning of his legacy, he replied hundreds of email every day, even the trivial ones asking him which wine goes well with beef. That’s why this guy is influencing so many people now. It all started with one email or one view that he engaged with.

He understands happiness ultimately drives motivation which explains why he constantly stresses that family comes before work. He even walked you through his 18-hours of daily work. So when he says, “I beg you. Please do what you love!!!” it is not an empty statement. He further backs this statement by saying that you can do what you love from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. after work and spending time with family. That’s enough.

He is creating a community that people want to be a part of and we should all learn from this guy.

The Fireside Chat will cover what entrepreneurship is all about, the current state and future of social media and Gary’s strategy in Asia.

The event will take place in Mettā in Central on July 12 at 2 p.m. Tickets are sold here.

A 3-a.m. ‘idea’ takes you to Macau

Senado Square in Macau

I used to daydream all day and stare out the window where my mind showed me the world on a magic carpet ride. Yeah, it didn’t get me anywhere.

But working at a startup, I grew into a person of ideas. My imaginations took me from Chile’s Atacama Desert, the dryest place on earth, all the way to the humid Macquarie Island of Australia in seconds. But a Sunday’s 3-a.m. idea actually put me on a turbo jet to Macau seven hours later.

A thought is: I will go to Macau someday.

An idea is: I will leave at 10 a.m. and get there on the boat an hour later.

Nothing was really planned out. Everything was new. I was not prepared. But sometimes the best travels are on the whim like a new business.

The counter at Shenzhen’s Shekou Ferry Terminal only took cash. Of course, I only had balance in my WeChat Pay. The ATM would not take my MasterCard.

But help always comes from an unexpected source with awesome sunglasses who didn’t understand a word of my English, but was super cool about giving me his cash in exchange of Wechat Pay.

I even passed by the long bridge between Hong Kong and Macau waters. This view was super exciting for me because once it is done, our Easiway rides will be on them. Look at how endless it goes just like our future! Cheers! For better days to come!

A few minutes in, voila! The iconic Macau’s burning sunlight ray touched my skin red.

From St. Paul’s Ruin, I worked my way down to Patio de Chon Sau, St. Dominic’s Church and Senado Square. The ruin is a good starting point especially on a hot summer day because it is way up the hill.

This travel that started on a whim led to me think how much I have change during my stay at Easiway. I used to be someone who didn’t really embark on adventures. But something snapped in me after college. I was tired of always being “almost there.” Playing it safe didn’t better my life.

I went to a good school and thought my life would start after I graduated. But nothing really happened. The world was not excited to show me wonders. It didn’t owe anyone anything.

So I did something a little out of the ordinary from my peers. I left a good paying job and started to work at a tinny tiny company which was the definition of CHAOS (at first). I didn’t even know what questions to ask then.

Here, I learned that being scared (for too long) was not okay and it gets me nowhere. (Boogie Man is only in your thoughts, remember?)

Someone else will never get the job done. So by taking action after telling myself “Screw it! I’m doing it!!!!” I got a mile further, even though it always felt impromptu. It was like fearlessly wandering the streets of Macau.

I had to learn this along with my coworkers for the product and service to be complete and it is getting there now.

Years into this company, a lot has changed. The business is growing. I am changing. I now book tickets to random places the second I have enough saved up, I am no longer afraid to talk to new people and I can say life is fun. I was a person whose world was inside my head and now I realize the real world is also exciting.

Like travelling the world.

Work hard, play hard

Work hard, play hard

We’re on the seventh floor of a garden apartment in Longhua, Shenzhen. The whole team will be here for awhile. The boot camp mode is ON!

Many ask us how is Easiway different from other platforms. We are creating a professional fleet management system called Easishare Management System for car rental companies to effectively manage drivers and vehicles. Dispatchers can keep a close eye on drivers so they are not late and such. You know the drill.

Long story short, we make all players in the industry happy.

Definitely, it’s hard work for all team members. A good product calls for a close communicaton. That’s why we’re all here. We talk night and day fixing things, making things, having fun and enduring the occasional stressed-out phase.

There are other moments when you try to not feel awkward when an arguement between other team members get pretty heated up. Of course, we argue because we all care and it’s required for a good product to surface.

It all works beautifully because the sales team can give feedback to the dev team right away and the product becomes better each day.

We work hard. So we play hard (once in a while).

All team members went along with the sales team who had a meeting with a vendor in Guangzhou and got to see this beauty. Not a cloud in the sky. It was a good day.

We also stopped by Shamian Island to see some vintage buildings that stole our hearts. We did nothing, but walk and it was perfect.

In Guangzhou, there are a lot of fashion hopefuls who sell on online shopping giant Tao Bao which explains the ton of fashion photo shoots going on down the streets.

It was soothing especially because the atmostphere was so chill. Away from the boot camp, we enjoyed the peaceful faces there.

Work hard, play hard

After this trip, we’re here back to work.

This will be a time that will never come again. When will the team members ever be working together this closely to build something that we believe in?

It’s a process that needs dedication and commitment. Communication is key to bring everyone on the same page. Years and years later, we will keep remembering this time: our own good old days that made history.

Being Frances Ha

Easiway-Frances Ha

She’s lovable, but you don’t want to be her.

Frances is a 27-year-old woman who starts out in Brooklyn to become a dancer. She is an apprentice dancer in a small company. But she doesn’t get a full membership and her life unravels. Her best friend/roommate moves out to live in Tribeca where Frances can’t afford. Frances is up in the air with no place to live, no job and alone.

She wears a dorky smile to hide her agony as she struggles. There is something uncomfortable about her attitude in life. She is in between. Why can’t she just get a real job like everybody else? You may think.

But hey! Give her a break. She’s only trying to climb over the fence that the industrial age had built.

This fence had trapped us with “the bait of decent pay and plenty of prizes” as Seth Godin puts it. As the industrial age fades, this fence that makes us feel safe disappears too, but we are not aware of it. Not yet.

“Following instructions is overrated.”

Being human now means being something bigger. Being human now means to fly a lot closer to the sun if you wanted to. So we need to create wings not made of wax, but something stronger. We all need to be artists and be more human.

Not a lot of us has tried this before. We do not have mentors.  So it’s only natural that Frances’s new attempt look awkward and uneasy.

We don’t want to be her yet, but we should. We will.

I got a real job!

You may be still in school at the age of 30. You may have a law degree but choose to work as a tollbooth attendant.

Yeah. You sound like someone who is outside the fence living a risky life. Ooooooor you may be the artist that shows the world how much higher we can fly. You may feel out of place because you’re not on the path that others are on. But you’re not alone.

The old industrial age mostly taught us that other players in the market are your competitors and we have to fight against each other to survive. But we at easi6 created a platform so rental car companies can cooperate to survive. We are helping them to serve more orders with the same number of fleets. We are outside of the fence. We are showing how high we can fly and the vendors are joining us.

So in a way, we are artists.

Good news is you can be one, too.

Stay Connected

The world is vast.

The world is vast.

What gets you through the day?

Competition is every day. You run and run, but you feel like nothing is enough. Yet, we struggle. We fight because we will all be winners at the end. But on a very bad day, what gets you to not give up?

For me, it’s my family. I video call ‘em up and as soon as it connects, my mother blurts out this laugh that makes everything worth it.

“Hi you!!”

This connection is strong. They have my back so I will not fall and I am in control. They will help me when I am in need and I grow. That feeling that you are not alone is gold.

The world is vast and you need to be together to win.

This is the main concept behind soon-to-be-launched Easishare Management System.

It helps rental car companies to be in control of orders, driver and vehicle. From order input to satisfied customers, the system makes everything in between seamless.

  • Vendors can share order info with drivers and customer accurately.
  • Dispatchers can track drivers and their expenses.
  • It keeps dispatchers and driver alerts so they are in time.
  • Receiving orders and assigning drivers and vehicles can now be done in a few clicks.
  • The automatic timetable also shows drivers’ schedule allowing dispatchers to arrange orders effectively.

Also,

With EMS, vendors can exchange order with other partners to serve more orders with the same fleet size.

You don’t have to fight alone.

Be in control.

Stay connected.
